Configuring your connection is easy and takes less than 5 minutes. You will need a local access number to connect to the Internet. If you don’t already know the number, click the Access Numbers tab to search for a number or to download a text file of local access numbers.
From your desktop, right-click one time on the My Network Places icon.
From the menu, select Properties.
You will see the Network and Dialup connections window.
Double-click the Make New Connection icon.
When you see the 'Welcome to the Network Connection Wizard' screen, click Next.
Select Dial up to the Internet and click Next.
Select the option to set up your Internet connection manually (the third one) and click Next.
Select I connect using a phone line and a modem and click Next.
Enter your local access number (see note below) and click Next.
Enter your username along with the following prefix: bdu/username (see notes below)
On the same page enter your password.
Enter a name for the connection (i.e., Budget Dialup) and click Next.
Click Finish and a new icon will appear in your Network and Dialup Connections window.
Right-click one time on the new icon and select Create Shortcut from the menu. This will put a shortcut on your desktop.
To connect, double-click the shortcut on your desktop and click Connect.
Entering Access Numbers: Enter the access number the same way you would enter it if you were dialing the number on a telephone. If you don't need to dial the area code, do not enter the area code. For more information, see Entering Access Numbers.
Entering Your Username: When you manually configure your connection, you must include the bdu/ prefix with your username. In the Username field, enter your username in the following format: bdu/username
Double-click the shortcut on your desktop and then click Connect. When connected, you will see a message that says you are now connected with Budget Dialup–nothing else will happen automatically. To go to a Web site, open Internet Explorer from your Programs menu.
To disconnect from the Internet, look for the small icon next to the clock in the lower right corner of your monitor (it looks like two computers connected together). Double-click this icon and you will see a message that tells you how long you've been connected. Click Disconnect to end your session.
