Configuring your connection is easy and takes less than 5 minutes. You will need a local access number to connect to the Internet. If you don’t already know the number, click the Access Numbers tab to search for a number or to download a text file of local access numbers.
Go to Start -> Programs -> Communications -> Remote Networking.
Double-click Make New Connection.
Type Budget Dialup in the "Type a name for the connection" box. Select the Dial-up Connection radio button. Click Next.
Select the modem and click Next.
Enter the access number. Do not leave the Country and Area Code boxes empty. These boxes are used to determine how to dial the access number. Click Finish to close the window.
Once the connection is created, an icon appears in the Remote Networking folder with the name you gave the connection.
Double-click the icon and enter your username and password. Enter your username along with the following prefix: bdu/username (see note below).
If there is nothing but a "T" where it says phone number, then you will need to set up your dialing properties.
Click the dial properties button.
Enter the area code and country code.
Click dialing patterns.
This section tells your system how to dial the
access number. At the bottom of the screen there is a "key"
to help you set this up. The letters E, F, and G are just variables. They
take the place of the numbers they represent. The first line is For Local
calls. The second line is For Long Distance calls. The third is For International
calls. Make sure you set up the pattern the way you would need to dial
the number in that area. See the following examples:
Local: 9,G (dial "9" to get an outside line, then dial the number without the area code)
Long distance 9,1FG (dial "9" then dial 1 + area code + number)
International:
9,011,EFG (dial "9" then dial 011 + country code + area code
+ number)
When finished, click OK to save the patterns and try to connect. On the connection window, make sure the phone number is displayed the way it should be dialed. If not, go back and modify your dialing patterns.
Entering Your Username: When you manually configure your connection, you must include the bdu/ prefix with your username. In the Username field, enter your username in the following format: bdu/username
