Setting Up Your Connection

Windows XP

Configuring your connection is easy and takes less than 5 minutes. You will need a local access number to connect to the Internet. If you don’t already know the number, click the Access Numbers tab to search for a number or to download a text file of local access numbers.

Entering Access Numbers: Enter the access number the same way you would enter it if you were dialing the number on a telephone. If you don't need to dial the area code, do not enter the area code. For more information, see Entering Access Numbers.

Entering Your Username: When you manually configure your connection, you must include the bdu/ prefix with your username. In the Username field, enter your username in the following format: bdu/username

Connecting and Disconnecting

Double-click the shortcut on your desktop and then click Dial. When connected, you will see a message that says you are now connected with Budget Dialup–nothing else will happen automatically. To go to a Web site, open Internet Explorer from your Programs menu.

To disconnect from the Internet, look for the small icon next to the clock in the lower right corner of your monitor (it looks like two computers connected together). Double-click this icon and you will see a message that tells you how long you've been connected. Click Disconnect to end your session.
